After a good six months intercalation to settle into my new role at a new university I returned to my studies in September 2024. And promptly felt overwhelmed and burned out.
Breathe.
Work was busy, the commute and being in the office two days a week were exhausting me, I was struggling to focus and every time I started reading an academic paper I fell asleep.
Breathe.
Fortunately between a four-day working week and generous holiday entitlements I had over two weeks off over the Christmas break which allowed me time to reset, renew, and re-focus.
Breathe.
As with many academic posts, this one is short-term and finishes at the end of September 2025. I’m hoping to return to Lancaster University, I miss Lancaster campus and the colleagues there, but I know times are hard within academia, and suitable posts are few and far between, so I am bringing to life an idea I have had for the last few years.
Part of my holiday was spent meditating and slowing down, and I rediscovered The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte. I’d read it ages ago and also had the audiobook and, remembering how soothing I found her Canadian voice, I started listening. One key take-away I am embodying each day is “feeling good is the primary intention”, and it is with this in mind that I am forming this consultancy.
I want to create stuff that feels good to make.
I want to create stuff that is useful and meaningful.
I want goals that align with my values.
So I am nurturing this idea, slowly birthing a consultancy that is in alignment with everything I hold dear, with everything that I am. Welcoming the next phase of my life as a mentor, a storyteller, a researcher.
Welcome dear reader, please contact me for no other reason than to nurture connection on a meaningful level.
